Digital twin (content)

Definition

A digital twin, in AI content work, is a model of one person's writing voice, built from their past posts and notes, that drafts new content in their style. In engineering the term has an older meaning: a virtual copy of a physical object or system.

Also called: AI writing twin

It lets a busy founder or expert publish regularly without writing every first draft, while still sounding like themselves. The older engineering meaning is different: a live electronic copy of a real thing, such as a machine or a factory line, that tracks how it changes. NIST uses that sense, describing electronic representations of real-world entities and their states.

How it works

The twin is a set of instructions and examples loaded into an AI assistant, often as a skill or a saved project. The core is a voice card: sample posts the person is proud of, phrases they never use, sentence rhythm, and the positions they hold. Many setups add a library of openings that performed well in the past, so drafts start from proven hooks.

The person gives the twin a raw idea or a voice memo transcript. The twin returns drafts in their voice. The person edits the draft and posts it.

Example

A consultant collects her 30 best LinkedIn posts, a list of 15 phrases she bans, and a page of her opinions on pricing and hiring. She loads them into an AI project. Each Monday she dictates three rough ideas on her commute and edits the drafts on Tuesday morning.

Common mistake

Letting the twin post on its own. Followers notice when the voice drifts, and the person stops checking claims made in their name. A twin built without a voice card fails in a different way: it produces generic AI prose under the person's name.
