No-code automation
Definition
No-code automation is building workflows that move data between apps by connecting visual blocks instead of writing code. Each workflow starts with a trigger, like a new email, and runs a set of steps, like creating a task, every time that trigger fires.

Also called: workflow automation, low-code automation
A chat assistant helps when you ask it something. An automation runs on its own whenever an event happens, which suits repetitive work that spans more than one app. An AI step inside the flow lets it sort messy input, such as free-text emails.
How it works
Every automation has the same shape: a trigger followed by one or more steps. Between steps you map data, telling the tool which field from step one goes into which field in step two. The trigger can be a schedule, a new row in a sheet or a webhook from another app. The run history shows the input and output of every step.
Example
A property manager gets maintenance requests by email. An automation watches the shared inbox. An AI step labels each email as urgent, routine or not maintenance, and pulls out the unit number and the problem in one line. The flow creates a ticket on the team's task board with those fields filled in, and urgent tickets also post to the on-call channel.
Common mistake
Letting the AI step reply in free-form sentences. The next step expects a label and a unit number, gets a paragraph, and the mapping breaks or fills the wrong field. Define the exact output format and test it on a handful of real emails before switching the flow on.

Related terms
- n8n
- n8n is a workflow automation tool where you build automations by linking steps, called nodes, on a visual canvas, starting from a trigger such as a schedule or an incoming webhook. Workflows can include AI steps and can run on n8n's cloud or on your own server.
- Webhook
- A webhook is a message one app sends to a web address you choose the moment something happens, such as a form being submitted or a payment going through. It lets another system react straight away instead of checking for changes on a timer.
- AI workflow
- An AI workflow is a fixed series of steps, set in advance by a person or by code, in which an AI model handles one or more of the steps. The steps run in the same order every time, which makes a workflow easy to test and check.
- Human in the loop
- Human in the loop is a setup where an AI system pauses at set points so a person can approve or correct its work before it takes effect. It is used for actions that are hard to undo, such as sending emails to customers or moving money.
